Jordyn is a happy spirited and compassionate 16-year-old. She loves cooking, music, dancing and animals. Kedron is a fun-loving 14-year-old with an out of this world sense of humor. He loves video games and spending time with friends and family. Their family joined HopeKids in 2018 and the duo’s favorite HopeKids event was the Fortnite gaming event at the Microsoft Store! Jordyn and Kedron enjoyed inviting their friends to play the game and exploring all of the games on different technology platforms. “HopeKids has benefitted our family with the events offered that help keep our focus off the challenges of life and instead remind us that we are not alone and that there is always hope!” - Kedron and Rubi, Jordyn and Kedron II’s, dad and mom Photos by: Sydney and Shea Hinkley3 4 6 Focusing on FamilyFocusing on Family standout siblings and the importance of family Hope DeliveredHope Delivered a package ordered was hope delivered 2020 in Review2020 in Review a trying year full of hope Program PartnersProgram Partners creative events families have on their calendar 7 84 FAMILYFAMILY FOCUSED ONFOCUSED ON5 IMPACTIMPACTWe focus on five research-driven impact areas to ease the journey for families who are walking through the hardest time in their lives: hope & anticipation, community & support, safety & acceptance, economic support and FAMILY FOCUS. A child’s most valuable support network is a strong family unit but, sadly, all family members can be negatively impacted by a child’s illness. Siblings are often unintentionally overlooked as parents struggle to manage financial and medical concerns. At HopeKids, our events and activities bring a family together when circumstances tend to pull them apart. Our events offer fun for all family members, allowing them to spend much needed time together, even parent date nights. All events are focused on the whole family and provide opportunities to look forward to the future. We help create memories during a time that brings situations that our families might otherwise wish to forget. “I have many favorite parts about HopeKids [photo] day. One standout is siblings. I just love all the siblings of the HopeKid. I try to keep in perspective that, as much as I am there to serve the parents, I am there to serve the siblings too. There are many inherent sacrifices that everyone in a family makes for one another. Siblings are no exception. Big group family photos are important, but I ALWAYS get individual portraits of each child. Let them have their moment in the spotlight— whether they love it or not. Sometimes that looks like capturing toddlers cuddling on a log peering into a creek while their brother takes a well-deserved break from photos.” - Stephanie, Stephanie Fassler Photography, Colorado Volunteer6 Each HopeKids chapter has a private Facebook forum for parents to share resources, ask questions about treatment plans and, most importantly, find community. Catherine, Torin’s mom, shared a photo in the forum of a note written on a UPS package slip hoping that she’d be able to find the author, who didn’t know that Torin’s family was already a HopeKids family. Hope unfolded in the comments section of the post. 6 PACKAGE ORDERED HOPE DELIVERED This was left with our UPS delivery Friday late afternoon. Does anyone deliver around here? We have a sign on our door explaining why we don’t ever come to the door (kiddo with cancer). It made both my husband and I smile big. Our whole family has been so grateful for this community over the past few years! - Catherine, Torin’s mom That was me. Our family has been blessed personally by HopeKids and I’m always looking for ways to share this group with others. I’m glad the note was a bright spot in your day. - Jeff, Bete’s dad It was indeed a bright spot! We might have done a little “someone else gets it” dance after a looooong week. - Catherine7 2020HopeKids provides ongoing events, activities and a powerful, unique support community for families who have a child with cancer or some other life-threatening medical condition.
