She doesn’t let her immuno-compromised diagnosis get in the way of leading her community garden and teaching other kids how to grow various plants. Macy’s family joined HopeKids in September 2014. Together, they went camping for the first time as a family with HopeKids!“Even with good insurance and a good income, activities can be out of our financial reach. HopeKids events allow us to spend time as a family doing something enjoyable, which we so desperately need.” - Julie, Macy’s mom34Middle TennesseeHopeKids Launches Sixth ChapterYear in Review2018 Chapter Program Statistics6Facebook FundraisersGet Involved and Provide Hope22DDW Partners Car Show for HopeKidsFundraiser and Family Fun Day20Middle TennesseeNew ChapterEach year in the United States, approximately 500,000 children cope with life-threatening medical conditions. These conditions affect the entire family with more than half of parents suffering from acute stress disorders and 80% of siblings having elevated levels of post-traumatic stress. As a result of statistics like these it is our desire to continue to bring the message that hope is a powerful medicine to as many people as possible. Because of the support and generosity of people like you, we are excited to have launched a Middle Tennessee chapter in March 2019 and are looking forward to serving the families in and around Nashville who have a child with a life-threatening medical condition.CC Image courtesy of Derrick Brutel on Flickr5Your ImpactI couldn’t be more excited about the new HopeKids Middle Tennessee chapter. While largely unknown in this area, HopeKids will soon touch the lives and hearts of special needs kids and their families. My 7 year-old grandson, Bentley, lives in Minneapolis and was born at 31 weeks with multiple complications, several of which have been life-threatening. I cannot say enough about how HopeKids has helped Bentley and his family feel less isolated, more vibrant and a part of the community. It gives them comfort, recognition, compassion, and encouragement when most of the world quickly passes by or, worse yet, stares. Families caring for children with a life-threatening diagnosis in Middle Tennessee will receive a much needed morale boost when HopeKids becomes fully operational.
