Despite the time he spends in the hospital and receiving treatments, he has such a determined and positive spirit. His family joined HopeKids in March 2016, and has attended over 130 events since! Some of his family’s most attended events are private movie screenings and family portrait days. “Thank you, HopeKids, for the hope that you give our family despite the hospital stays we face between our two HopeKids. Our family is strong and still smiling even though we all face so much behind the mask.” - Christel, Zion’s mom3 4 T-Shirts Provide X-treme HopeT-Shirts Provide X-treme Hope how a HopeKids dad became a major partner in our mission 6 Baseball, Pool Parties & GolfBaseball, Pool Parties & Golf see the best of this summer’s events in photos Program PartnersProgram Partners creative events families have on their calendar 8Ma rk Daus , President | X-treme Appare l T-SHIRTS PROVIDE X-TREME HOPE “We have been blessed to be a part of HopeKids for close to 20 years now by supplying the apparel for their events and black team shirt that everyone receives when they sign up.” - Mark, President | X-treme Apparel how a HopeKids dad became a major partner in our mission5 Ma rk Daus , President | X-treme Appare l 5 When we print HopeKids shirts, I take a moment, as a parent of a child who survived cancer, to take that shirt to an emotional level. I understand what it means to a child to receive a HopeKids shirt. The child is part of a community where there is fun, excitement and real people that care about them, their challenges and hope that they will be cured. Every shirt means the world to that child and takes on a special meaning to that family! It is one of the greatest gifts in life that X-treme has been part of that giving for almost 20 years. It is our honor to be HopeKids’ apparel provider for all these years! “ ” Over the past 20 years X-treme Apparel has printed thousands of HopeKids t-shirts, including the well-loved, black logo t-shirt that each family receives upon admittance to our program. To HopeKids families, it’s so much more than just a t-shirt. We often hear parents repeat the same sentiment: Their kids light up when the HopeKids t-shirt is pulled out of the drawer. They know something fun is ahead; a private movie screening, a baseball game, or maybe a trip to the zoo. They’re about to go on an adventure that will take their mind off their upcoming doctors appointments and treatment schedules, even if just for a couple of hours. Mark Daus, president of X-treme Apparel, is a HopeKids dad. His son Austin was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma, a type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, in 2003 when he was nine years old. When asked about his family’s experience with HopeKids, he explained, “Like all parents, [Austin’s diagnosis] came from nowhere and knocked us to our knees. Within the first month of being in the hospital, we met a HopeKids representative. The countless number of events and opportunities that HopeKids gives the child, as well as their siblings and parents, is incredible and provides an outlet for the entire family to escape the day to day fight to save our child’s life. Our son Austin is now a physical therapist for the Seattle Mariners baseball team and was just married last October! As a parent, I still get emotional talking about his story 20 years later and that God saved our son!” Out of Mark’s family’s involvement with HopeKids, an incredible partnership formed. X-treme Apparel prints all of HopeKids’ t-shirts at-cost and even extends that discount to families who would like to make team shirts for the HopeWalk. Not only are they x-tremely generous with their services, but Mark is also a major donor. When asked what fuels him to also give monetarily to HopeKids, he said, “HopeKids provides so much to all of their families. I know HopeKids is changing lives everyday across our country and if we can help fuel that then count me in everyday! To those out there thinking about where to donate your money I would say: Children are the sunshine in our lives, and to see life through their eyes only makes each of us better people. If you spent some time with HopeKids, your heart would fall in love and it becomes very easy for your money to follow.” We are so grateful for the many years of partnership with Mark and X-treme Apparel and look forward to many more. His dedication to providing hope to families who have a child with a life-threatening medical condition through making t-shirts serves as a reminder that hope is a powerful medicine! 66 1 2 6 5 437 1.
