Elizabeth loves being held and sung to and is a really great listener. Eli and Olivia, Elizabeth’s brother and sister, had so much fun participating in the busy boards event. They helped Elizabeth make her board and then spent hours playing together. The Reynolds family joined HopeKids in late 2018, and together they enjoy attending events in the HopeSuite because they feel like VIPs! “Hope is the place where you want to go. Hope is the person who you want to know. Hope is the feeling that carries you through and Hope is the future for me and for you.” - A poem by Ms. Moem that is special to the Reynolds family3 4 Celebrating 20 YearsCelebrating 20 Years a milestone made possible by your support 6 Week of HopeWeek of Hope families across chapters experience the trip of a lifetime Program PartnersProgram Partners creative events families have on their calendar 820 YEARS20 YEARS CELEBRATINGCELEBRATING OF HOPE FOROF HOPE FOR THE FUTURETHE FUTURE HopeKids launched in September 2001 in Phoenix, Arizona, with a goal of providing hope to families who have a child with a life-threatening medical condition. It allows us to take breaks and focus on having fun. Otherwise, we would just be stuck at home or the hospital in the vortex of sickness. Thank you for allowing us to lift our heads up and to see more of the world around us. ” “ - MIKE, TOBY’S DAD HopeKids is a chance to enjoy life, a chance to be free from burdens temporarily and a chance to be in a community that truly gets it. ” “ - STARLET, GABRIELLA’S MOM HopeKids begins providing over 2,000 events annually Thank you for believing that hope is a powerful medicine!66 In early September, 15 HopeKids families across all six chapters were invited to spend a week in Montana at Flathead Lake Lodge for the second annual Week of Hope. Truly the trip of a lifetime, families experienced life on the ranch to the fullest--riding horses, jumping off the dock into the lake and even taking a ride on a seaplane. WEEK OF HOPEWEEK OF HOPE7 For the first time, my kids embraced being a little different and just let loose. At the party in the pasture, my son said, ‘C’mon Mom! This is about dancing like no one is watching!’ while he went to town on his own version of dancing. Week of Hope has been life-changing and the greatest thing my family has ever experienced. - Kristina, Linus and Phoebe’s mom “ ” Flathead Lake Lodge is a family-owned and operated dude ranch in northwest Montana. Now stewarded by Chase and Kate, the ranch has been home to the Averill family for three generations. Last year’s Week of Hope was so life-changing that Flathead Lake Lodge invited us back for a second year on a trip families will hold in their hearts for the rest of their lives. HopeKids families spent a week, all expenses paid, exploring the 2,000 acres by riding horses; making arts and crafts; sailing on the lake; making s’mores; clay shooting; laser tag; mountain biking; hiking; fishing; water sports; swimming; and games. They were also treated to the most delicious meals! Week of Hope is about bringing families together who share the common journey of having a child with a life-threatening medical condition to form community and new friendships. Struggles were shared, tears were shed and hugs were abundant, but more importantly there were lots of laughs and smiles. Kids got to try things that they would never have had the chance to do, and parents stood by in awe watching them do things they never imagined they would or even could! It began with Week of Hope but ended with memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. We are so grateful to the Flathead Lake Lodge Team for inviting us back for another restorative and truly magical Week of Hope!88 SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR PROGRAM PARTNERS 566 events were provided by 184 different program partners in June, July and August.
